HOUSTON, (March 19, 2009) - Houston-based Greenstar North America, the country's largest private processor of recyclables, today announced with its Irish parent company, NTR plc, that it has reached a number of safety, operational and technological milestones over its past fiscal year including:

  1. 40% improvement in safety performance
  2. 1.6 million tons of recyclables processed with an expectation of exceeding 2.1 million tons processed in the next 12 months
  3. Started up the most automated single stream plant in the USA in San Antonio Texas with a nameplate capacity of over 200,000 tpy of combined residential and commercial single stream
  4. Implemented a world class three mix glass optical sorting plant in Allentown, Pennsylvania with a nameplate capacity of 150,000 tpy
  5. Rolled out a standard financial package across the entire company and centralized accounting and finance functions at its Houston headquarters

In addition to these milestones, Greenstar announced that its CEO and founder, Steve Ragiel, will be joining its Irish parent company, NTR plc, to work on sustainable energy and sustainable resource investments. Steve will also be joining the NTR North American Advisory Board and will continue to be a shareholder in and an active member of the Greenstar Board of Directors. Ragiel noted that he was happy with the Greenstar team's ability to push through the adversity of the down market and reach the major milestones set for the teams. Steve also mentioned that he is very excited to be joining NTR plc and going back into the sustainable energy and resource field.

Jim Barry, CEO of NTR plc said, "Based on NTR's global view of the need for dramatically increased resource sustainability, we remain strongly committed to Greenstar North America's business model. I would like to thank Steve for his contribution as its founding Chief Executive. He can be extremely proud of the world class team and asset base he has built which gives the company a solid platform for future growth. NTR is looking forward to continuing to work with Steve on a number of NTR's emerging sustainable energy and resource opportunities."

Headquartered in Ireland, NTR has expanded aggressively in the US over the last several years.  Currently it operates wind energy, solar energy, bio-ethanol and recycling businesses in the US with total revenue of approximately $500 million. NTR has a clear agenda for its US businesses - to expand its green footprint to address the challenges faced from the depletion of our natural resources, increase in climate change and dependence on foreign oil.

Mike Wynne, Chief Executive of NTR's International Recycling Division, will be taking over from Steve as acting CEO effective March 22.  "Steve has built the business by assembling a great team and pursuing a series of acquisitions and partnerships - and building trust with everyone who has dealt with him," Wynne commented. He continued, "The Greenstar team is looking forward to meeting its aggressive new milestones over the 12 months."
