POLAND - (Monday, October 26, 2009) - Greenstar broke ground on Monday to start construction of a new state-of-the-art recyclery to be built on US Route #224 adjacent to Republic's Carbon Limestone Landfill in Poland Township. In order to complete this project, the Ohio Department of Natural Resources is providing a grant of $250,00 which will be matched by Greenstar North America.
The facility will provide a place for Republic Services to dump recyclables locally rather than hauling them to Pittsburgh for processing. Republic has a long term contract with Greenstar. Republics also has a long term agreement with Mahoning County to collect recyclables every other week from more than 80,000 houses.
When completed, the initial construction will provide 6 new jobs in the township. There are plans to expand the complex and offer more jobs over the next several years.
Several state and local dignitaries were in attendance.
